What distinguishes migraine from other forms of headache?

Migraine headache differs from other forms of headache in that it is unilateral, pulse-synchronised and independent of movement. This characteristic pain, the typical sensitivity to light and noise (photo- and phonophobia), the nausea and the symptoms of unsteadiness and dizziness that are often experienced indicate a change in perception – at least during the attack. Sometimes, a slight change in perception is also seen when the migraine patient has no symptoms and can manifest itself as an unsteadiness of movement that is barely noticeable, even for the person concerned (subclinical).
