Epilepsy products
Epilepsy can present itself at any age; however, the incidence and prevalence is highest in the very young and the elderly. Depending on age of manifestation, the causes for epilepsy can differ widely. Epilepsy has a lifetime prevalence of 3% and almost 10% of the population will experience at least one epileptic seizure in 80 years of life.
A genetic predisposition is responsible for between 5 and 10 per cent of cases of epilepsy, the so called idiopathic epilepsy. Only in 1 out of 2 cases, modern diagnostic techniques cannot prove the cause of the condition. Thanks to advances in techniques of investigation, this proportion is continuously decreasing.
With an appropriate treatment, patients are successfully controlled in 70 to 80 % of cases.
