Self examination for early detection of Parkinson’s
If you answer "yes" to more than three questions in the following test, you are among the persons who could have the first signs of Parkinson’s disease:
- Have your hands ever shaken even though they were resting on something and relaxed?
- Is one arm bent and does not swing along when you walk?
- Is your posture somewhat bent forward?
- Is your gait somewhat shuffling or do you drag one leg behind?
- Do you take small steps and do you often stumble or fall?
- Do you suffer from low motivation and initiative?
- Do you have frequent backaches in the neck and shoulder area?
- Have you noticed that you are avoiding friends and relatives or that you don’t enjoy contact with people or don’t have a desire to do anything?
- Have you noticed changes in your voice? Has it become more monotone and softer than before or do you sound hoarse?
- Have you noticed that your handwriting has become smaller?
If you have observed more than 3 of the above-mentioned symptoms you should contact your physician for further diagnostic clarification.
