Research and Development
In addition to our recognized expertise in the area of pharmaceutical development, conducting clinical trials is an essential prerequisite for a new product on the pathway to physician and patient. We are continuously conducting a variety of studies. We will present a selection of the most important projects here.
Clinical Research
Desitin possesses comprehensive know-how in the area of medicine for conducting clinical studies and pharmaceutical testing for phases I-IV.
In clinical research, all innovations from our Pharmaceutical Development department are extensively and clinically tested according to the most recent standards.
The emphasis of our work is epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, and the treatment of psychiatric disorders.
In addition to bioavailability studies and studies to investigate pharmaceutical interactions, multicentre studies on efficacy and tolerability of our pharmaceuticals are performed throughout Europe. To achieve this, we work closely together with renowned clinics and institutes.
Within the framework of clinical research, we are presently conducting the second largest clinical study worldwide up to now with the agent oxcarbazepine for the indication epilepsy (300 patients from all over Germany). The goal of the study is proof of efficacy and tolerability of sustained-release oxcarbazepine, a proprietary development of Desitin.
In addition, Desitin is active in the biotechnology sector. Just recently, a collaboration with the Frankfurt biotechnology firm G2M Cancer Drugs AG was established. The goal is to develop a new medication for cancer patients, which is based on the future-oriented principle of histone deacetylase inhibition – an innovative chemotherapy method bringing a new perspective for the cancer patient.
With this development it was shown that neurologically effective medications can also have additional medicinal effects in other indications.
Moreover, accompanying studies of tolerability will continue to be conducted after introduction into the market and to research new application areas. This ensures that our preparations are always commensurate with the most recent state of knowledge.
